In group play the Cheetahs defeated Southeast SC of Connecticut 2-1 and NJ Crush Strikers 3-1 on Saturday. In Sunday’s final group action against South Jersey Elite Barons they lost 2-1, however, by scoring a goal with less then 5 minutes left they qualified for the final.

In the final the Cheetahs came out fast and scored in the second minute. The joy of getting an early lead dissipated quickly when South Central roared back and scored the equalizer less then 3 minutes later. Both teams put in a strong defensive effort against the pressurizing offenses and also got some help from the goal posts as each team nearly scored again in the first half, but was denied by the posts. The second half started like the first with the Cheetahs applying a lot of pressure early. The pressure resulted in a penalty kick being awarded. Although the PK just missed its target, the Cheetahs confidence and fitness took control of the game, however, the South Central defense and goalkeeper would not break. The game ended 1-1 after regulation and went straight to kicks from the mark. Each team went 5 for 5 and so it went to sudden death. The sixth shooters from both teams added a lot of excitement as Parsippany’s shooter hit both posts before finding the back of the net and South Central’s shooter skimmed it under the cross bar. The 7th shooter for Parsippany stepped up and placed a perfect shot into the back of the net. When South Central’s Keeper took their 7th shot and was stopped; the celebration was on.

"The girls played very well overall throughout the weekend, which included a NJ Cup match on Friday night. On Saturday our two games were pretty similar as we had some extremely good parts of the match and some not so well. We did not come ready to play Sunday morning, but we were ready for the finals. The team showed great heart, energy and effort in the final. They deserved to be in it and to win it. Although as coaches we would have preferred to win in regulation, to go 7 for 7 in PKs for the win was just tremendous and the excitement could not be any better." said Coach Chris Brauchle

The Parsippany Soccer Club sent their boys teams to Richmond Virginia to play in the prestigous Jefferson Cup. The tournament was very challeging in the level of play and for the younger boys their first significant travel trip to an out of state tournament. The PSC Boys were up to this challenge and faired very well for the Weekend. The U12 Crew finished 2nd, the U13 Celtic Bhoys finished 3rd, and the U17 Gators finished at the top of their Showcase group.

The U17 Gators, playing in the Classic Flight of the Showcase event, finished with 2 wins and a tie over their 3 days of playing, They out scored their opponents 5 to 1. "The team put out a tremendous effort all weekend and the results showed it. However, more important then the results was their quality of play as the boys showcased their talents to over 80 college coaches.", said Coach Stan Lembryck

The U13 Celtic Bhoys went 1-1-1 in group play to qualify for the consolation match of the Superior flight against Triangle FC of North Carolina. "We came out strong and took it to Triangle to get a goal in the first 10 minutes. The boys kept up the pressure and almost scored several times before halftime, however, their shots could not find the back of the net. It was our continued pressure in the second half that eventually led to another goal; keeping command of the play until giving up a goal in the final minutes. It was a good weekend for the boys and I am proud.", said coach Stan Matlak

The youngest of the teams to go Virginia was the U12 Crew. The Crew went undefeated in group play of the Platnium flight beating Rage of Eastern PA 4-1, Beadling of Western PA 2-1, and Washington Township 1-0. The final against CYA Cesena of Virginia was not the result the team had in mind as several breakdowns preceeded goals and the team lost 4-0. "It was a tough weekend against some very good opponents. The boys played extremely well on Saturday, but looked a little worn out on Sunday. The played hard and deserved to be in the final; we were just hopping for a better result. It was a good learning experience for the boys and the trip provided a great bonding opportunity for the team itself and with the older boys", said coach Stan Matlak.

"It was an overall fantastic weekend for the Parsippany Soccer Club Boys. They all rose to the challenge against some tough competition and made the Club, their coaches, their parents, and most importantly themselves proud of their sportmanship and play", said PSC Director Of Coaching Stan Lembryck.

Check out the Parsippany Crew U12 Boys team in action at the Jefferson Cup!
