Welcome to the start of the 2007-2008 soccer season.
Over 30 years ago the Parsippany Soccer Club, PSC as it is known, was formed with a couple of hundred kids with the intent on the development of soccer not only in the players, coaches, and parents, but also in the town. As Parsippany has grown, so too has soccer. We now have over 1,700 kids playing the game. They come from all over town, as there are no dividing lines, to play together to form a unique community in of itself. Hence, PSC could stand for the Parsippany Soccer Community as we bring the whole community together through soccer.
Many see two sides to our organization, intramural and travel, but in reality it is two halves that make it whole; without one the other cannot be its best. Even in each half there are many parts that make it up. Within our intramural program we have five divisions ranging from Pre-K and Kindergarteners in Division 7 where they are developing their social skills through soccer to Division 3 for our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. The same is true within our travel program which starts at 7 years old and ends at 17. Our small-sided players are learning the fundamental skills to build the soccer foundation needed to progress through to spring travel for our high-school players. The many parts that make up each half and each half making a whole, allows us to offer a level of commitment and skill development for every child.
As the town and the soccer community have grown together, we are privileged to have more kids playing than ever before. As youth sports have become more competitive the one thing that has not changed is the intent of the soccer club. The intent is still to provide soccer at all levels for the betterment of the players, their parents, the coaches, and the town of Parsippany.
Soccer is one of the, if not thee, largest participation sports around the world. There are over 19 million youths playing soccer in the US alone. We are doing our part by providing our children the opportunity to participate. This opportunity cannot be provided without the dedicated volunteers who make up our Board of Directors, committee members, and coaches; the support of Mayor Luther, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Town Council, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education and the other youth organizations in town. We must say thanks to the Parks and Forestry Department and the Recreation Department for their efforts in providing the fields that we play on.
Soccer is known as the “Beautiful” game. Who can argue when looking at the enjoyment our children show when playing it. There is nothing more beautiful in sports then seeing the smiles on the children’s faces after playing a game. The results of the game are put in the proper place, a place called “who cares”; when your child comes off the field with a big smile and says “I had fun today”.
Now let’s all enjoy a beautiful day by participating in the beautiful game.
Thanks,
