Bordentown 4/17 Game Summary

The Ravens traveled to windy Bordentown today for JAGS game #2. Between the cool temperatures and the gusty winds, it was downright chilly! But, the girls stayed focused and kept their game faces on. Overall, the final score was Parsippany 3, Bordentown 1.

The Ravens started the game playing uphill and into the wind so they knew if they kept the game close, they would have a significant advantage for the last 40 minutes. About 12 minutes in Emily Muniz chipped a long ball inside the 18 that Caitlin Lyons hustled to get to just before the Bordentown keeper. Once Caitlin got possession near the endline, she calmly passed the ball back to an eager Alina Vitencz who kicked the ball firmly into the net. Ravens 1 Bordentown 0. About 25 minutes into the 1st half, a lapse within the Ravens defense allowed a goal to tie the score at 1. Seven minutes later, Allison Mejia played a soft ball to Caitlin Lyons who once again beat the oncoming keeper to the ball and was able to get off a shot over her head that seemed to have a 5 second hang time before finding the net. Ravens 2 Bordentown 1.

20 minutes into the 2nd half, Allison Mejia played a ball up to Carly Stagl who got behind the Bordentown defenders. She had one chance to beat the keeper with her left foot and bingo, goal! Ravens 3-1. That is where the score ended, but I can remember at least 3 shots from 10 yards or closer that easily could have been in the net.

Once again, it was difficult to play pretty soccer between the thick, somewhat choppy field and severe winds. But, actually, the girls made a ton of nice passes today and played aggressively overall. The game got a little rough at times, but the Ravens knew when to settle down and play with composure, which allowed their skills to show and have the better of the play.

JAGS record is now 1-0-1. Great game girls!
