2004 Big Toe Sports Chesterfield VA Spring Invitational
The PSC Boomerangs competed this weekend against three premier teams in Virginia. The girls have not played out doors since November 2003.
Game #1 against Richmond Kickers Premier the Boomerangs started out weak allowing two goals in. Seven minutes left to the game, the Boomerangs began to play soccer. They scored the first goal 5 minutes left to the game. Emily Gleason assisted with a beautiful goal scored by Jessi Romano as she shot outside the left corner of the 18. Three minutes left to the game Brenadette Acuria took players on from the midfield bringing her self into the 18. Not able to execute the goal while in the 18, she dribbled out towards the corner of the field to turn and shoot to give the Boomerangs the tying goal. Boomerangs were determined to win this game but ran out of time.
Game #2 against Pittsburgh started good as Lorena Hincapie scored from a direct kick 25 yards outside of the goal. Boomerangs did not hold on to the win as they gave up two goals on a goal kick and one on a corner kick. This was a team that the Boomerangs should have beat.
Game #3 against FC Richmond Mystx the Boomerangs were challenged by the strongest team in our division. The girls played their best game of the tournament. They were able to stop one of their strongest players 5”9’ and held a 0-0 game until the end of the first half. Boomerangs dominated most of the game but were not able to score as they gave up a goal from a corner kick and one from a goal kick.
Keeper Gutierrez put a stop to a team that had scored 8-1 against Pittsburgh and 6-1 against Richmond Kicker Premier.
Great work from our keeper; Luisa Gutierrez, our Sweeper; Janelle Vega, Full backs Cyn-Dee Wong, Brenadette Acuria, Stopper Caitlin Umstead, Midfielders; Jessi Romano, Nicole Murray, Emily Gleason and Heather Barretta, Strikers; Stephanie Wysocki, Lorena Hincapie, Janine Wong and Jennifer Lee.
All in all the Boomerangs demonstrated that they can still compete at a high level. While much learning is still needed, this icebreaker will help the Boomerangs in their quest for first place in Morris County. continue...
